Hu Sheguang’s designs are imaginative and bold, blending contemporary art with traditional Eastern fashion aesthetics. His runway shows often combine fashion installations with operatic elements, creating an emotionally powerful stage presence. Over the years, he has consistently reinterpreted traditional cultural elements through a modern fashion lens, incorporating intangible cultural heritage techniques such as Chinese opera, Han embroidery, and bead embroidery into his designs.
He uses his work to build bridges for cultural exchange. The Netherlands “Lion Award” committee granted him the “Cultural Communication Designer of the Year” award. In 2022, the London Fashion Week committee officially recognized him as “a person who can influence world fashion.”
“JIN” collection @ Modefabriek 2026/2027
“Jin” is a traditional Chinese silk-weaving technique with thousands of years of history, celebrated for its vivid colors, refined craftsmanship, and enduring association with beauty and preciousness.
Every fabric in the “JIN” collection is hand-embroidered by inheritors of China’s intangible cultural heritage. Each unique panel takes more than six months to complete without machine assistance, embodying the values of craftsmanship and individuality. The collection debuted at Beijing Fashion Week, gaining international media attention within 72 hours and opening a new chapter for traditional Chinese craft through contemporary fashion.
Hu Sheguang has also created six exclusive bespoke pieces for Modefabriek. Made from multiple fabrics stitched together into rich compositions, they represent years of inspiration, friendship, and creative experience. Each fragment becomes a memory, forming a complete fashion life when brought together.
As a Dutch-Chinese designer, Hu Sheguang brings traditional Chinese craftsmanship and the Dutch fashion spirit into dialogue, while expressing his responsibility as a cross-cultural designer.
